Tolkien var en engelsk forfatter. Han var egentlig "bare" Professor i Oxford, og så endte det med at han blev berømt på godnathistorier han havde fortalt sine børn. Han er nu kendt hele verdenen over som forfatteren til de to bøger som næsten er fundamentet til hele fantasy genren, "The Hobbit" og "The Lord of the Rings."
