When Winston Niles Rumfoord flies his spaceship into a chrono-synclastic infundibulum he is converted into pure energy and only materializes when his waveforms intercept Earth or some other planet. Amerikansk forfatter. Han var krigsfange I Dresden I slutningen af 2. Verdenskrig. I 1950 fik han trykt sin første SF novelle, men Vonnegut er en person som ikke kun bliver tænkt på som en SF forfatter. Det er blandt andet derfor at han gennem årene er blevet meget anset hos det almindelige publikum, specielt for sin fine sans for humor. Nogle af hans bøger er blevet filmatiseret, blandt andet "Slaughterhouse-Five" og "Mother Night."
